Abstract

Urbanization studies identify transportation as an important factor of urban growth. In this study, we present a method for the quantification of the urban-transport relationship using easily accessible remote sensing and Philippine network data. NASA's Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor provides frequent measurements of Land Use/Land Cover in the world while OSM-Networkx (OSMnx) allows the generation of geospatial Philippine highway and waterway networks. The correlation between urban and transportation proximity are compared to identify which has a greater effect on urbanization.
