On a low-budget large-scale high-impact science learning program for Philippine schools

Abstract

Nations with a high density of highly creative minds equipped with the best training, discipline and stamina, have historically enjoyed rapid advances in science and technology that in turn, have led to enhanced wellness and lifestyles for the bulk of its population. Such nations are observed to take their education programs for the youth seriously, constantly evaluating and updating these programs vis-à-vis current global trends and socio-political effects of continued progress and development. For example, "European states seeking to base their economic futures on quality manufacturing, rather than quantity, take engineering seriously … Technology has emerged as the key battleground in Asian economic competition," [The Times Higher Education Supplement, November 9, 2007, p.10]. This priority focus on science and technology has strongly influenced the programs offered in top universities in the world.
