Abstract

We introduce a new technique for automated tracking of the limbs of a fencer from rest to initial lunge. Automatic tracking is executed by creating a mask that follows the centroid of the limb and rotates according to its orientation. Image subtraction and image multiplication are used to obtain the 'energy' exerted by the four limbs of the fencer. The calculated 'energy' plot is used to compare the amount of movement detected in each limb as the fencer lunges in order to determine which limb moves first. This technique has the potential to automatically measure response time in different stimuli.
