Abstract

The possible effects of urbanization on a heavy rain event were investigated. Model simulations were made using the WRF model during the tropical storm Sendong. Modification of land cover data to urban land cover over Cagayan de Oro was done and compared with the original data simulations. Temperature and rainfall (hourly and accumulated) were evaluated. The accumulated rainfall data showed increase of 100mm in the Kalatungan mountain range. The change of urban land cover resulted in enhanced rainfall in the mountain region south of the city may have contributed to the overflow of the Cagayan River during the typhoon.
