Abstract

In this paper, the application of the Israel junction conditions in general relativity in constructing a Taub vacuum planar symmetric spacetime sandwiched between Minkowski spacetimes is discussed. It is shown that the stationary junctions, modeled as perfect fluids, must have surface energy densities of opposite signs, which is reminiscent of the opposite charge densities in the plates of a parallel-plate capacitor.
