Synthesis of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ (Bi-2212) superconducting film through sedimentation, melt-quenching and post-annealing assisted with Potassium Chloride (KCl)

Abstract

Bi-2212 film with 10 wt% potassium chloride (KCl) powder was synthe- sized using sedimentation deposition, melt-quenched at 9500C at different duration, and post-annealed at 7700C for 20 hours. It was seen from the scanning electron microscope (SEM) images that the morphology of the film added with KCl became smoother compared to pure Bi-2212 film. However, when the Bi-2212 film with KCl was melted for longer duration, the surface became rougher. No morphological facets were seen that are caused by KCl addition. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that all of the films are highly c-axis oriented. Presence of Bi-2201 peaks and some impurity peaks were seen but were supressed when Bi-2212 with KCl was melted for 20 minutes. Transport measurements of the film showed that Bi-2212 films are still superconducting even if KCl was added in the mixture.
