Birefringence of ZnO microribbon with ultrawide [1010] parallel surfaces

Abstract

The birefringence of a single ZnO microribbon was demonstrated. The grown ZnO microribbon by carbothermal reduction method shows ultrawide parallel [1010] surfaces with uniform thickness. The dependence of the transmitted light to the azimuthal angle of the ZnO microribbon was shown using parallel and crossed polarizer-analyzer. A single ZnO microribbon was shown to induce circular and elliptical polarization to the transmitted light.
