Abstract

The fabrication of high quality and homogeneous YBCO powder remains a challenge up to this date. One of the best candidate for simple, and effective way of preparing high purity YBCO is the sol-gel method. The quality of the material prepared using this method is strongly dependent on the process parameter such as solvent, pH, chelating agent and heat temperature. In this study, we investigate the effect of various pH on the thermal properties and purity of YBCO powder prepared through acetate based sol-gel method. Our result shows that the use of pH 5 acetate solution produces single phase YBCO powder when heated at 800C in air for 2 hrs.
