Abstract

Terahertz emission was observed from an Ni/Pt on GaAs spintronic emitter. A Ni layer was deposited on a GaAs substrate and was capped with a thin Pt layer using electron beam deposition. A standard THz-TDS setup was used to obtain the terahertz signal. The excitation source used was a Menlo C-fiber femtosecond fiber laser with 1550 nm and 780 nm output. Reversal of terahertz polarity was observed upon changing magnetic field orientation for the sample under 1550 nm excitation. Terahertz emission was increased under 780 nm excitation but did not exhibit polarity reversal with respect to magnetic field orientation change.
