Abstract

We characterize the fractal dimension of images of overlapping ellipses for varying eccentricity values. Using the box-counting method (BCM), we calculated the fractal dimensions of both synthetic images from overlapping ellipses and natural forms comprised of green peas. The fractal dimension varies nonlinearly with the number of ellipses contained in the image. Upon normalization, a common trend of fractal dimension for different eccentricities was observed for both synthetic and natural data.
