Abstract

Misaligned optical components are considered as perturbations of the aligned component using two complimentary methods. The first method uses Ray Transfer Matrices and scalar metrics to quantify the extent of the misalignment. The perturbed light path due to the misaligned component constitute the second method. An expansion of the light path to second order is provided. Similarities between the two methods are discussed.
