Abstract

We report vacuum ultraviolet luminescence from up-conversion of ultraviolet femtosecond pulses in Nd³⁺:LaF³ and Nd³⁺:LuLiF⁴, with spectral and temporal characteristics similar to 157 nm excitation. Results suggest the possibility of an all-solid-state vacuum ultraviolet laser.
