Abstract

The antifungal activity of photocatalytic ZnO/Al film was examined against Fusarium oxysporum in vitro. The XRD pattern of the sample verified the existence of ZnO that was electrodeposited at 300V for 15 minutes on an aluminum substrate. The SEM images revealed that nanoporous ZnO with hexagonal shape crystallites was synthesized. Nanoporous ZnO indicates that it has greater surface area that offers numerous sites for the photocatalytic chemistry. ZnO/Al film combined with UV exposure showed 80.0% decrease in viable colonies of F. oxysporum in vitro. The findings suggest that photocatalytic reaction of ZnO demonstrates antifungal activity against F. oxysporum.
