Abstract

The effect of PbO2 addition on the morphological and electrical transport properties of YBCO films was investigated. YBCO films of different PbO2 content were prepared via sedimentation deposition method and partial melting technique. The results suggest significant effect of the PbO2 by reducing the possibility of island and grain boundary formation. PbO2 was also seen to successfully serve as a liquid bridge between YBCO particles which enhances matter transport and promote grain growth in the film fabrication process. In addition, resistance versus temperature measurements of YBCO films show improvement of the superconducting transition temperature with PbO2 addition. It was found that the film having 8 wt.% PbO2 produces a film with the highest superconducting transition temperature comparable to that of YBCO sample partially melted at higher temperature.
