Abstract

In this study, a free-standing film of nontronite – polyaniline (PAni) nanocomposite was fabricated. The nontronite clay nanoparticles were
collected through sedimentation technique. Polyaniline was chemically fabricated. Nontronite-PAni nanocomposite was synthesized with the aid of ultrasonication and hydrothermal treatment. The films were fabricated via vacuum filtration. The 20-um-thick free- standing nanocomposite films comprise 2% to 6% PAni and a dominant amount of nanometer-sized nontronite clay were tested under the universal testing machine. Pure nontronite film exhibited the highest structural property, and a comparable stiffness can be achieved with the nontronite-PAni nanocomposite film. Pure polyaniline do not exhibit appreciable stiffness when constructed into films.
