Asymmetrical correlation of traffic between EDSA and connected major roads in Metro Manila

Abstract

The traffic along major roads connected to EDSA have a statistical relationship that shifts from mostly positive to mostly negative, then back over a 24-hour time delay. This observation is based on Z, the product of Pearson‟s r and mutual information, computed using MMDA traffic data gathered from September 4, 2015 to November 5, 2015. The major effect of the time delay on correlation is asymmetrical, with correlation between points shifting at different rates. There also exist points that do not follow the general trend of shifting. Furthermore, local maxima and minima values for Z coincided with local maxima for transfer entropy when plotted against time delay.
