Abstract

This work presents evaluation of the terahertz wave detection capability of prototype photoconductive antenna devices made by the Semiconductor Group of the Condensed Matter Physics Laboratory at the National Institute of Physics, University of the Philippines. Bow-tie type photoconductive antenna structures with 7.5-μm and 10-μm gaps were fabricated on gallium arsenide substrates grown by molecular beam epitaxy at low temperatures. Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy was utilized to evaluate the terahertz wave detection capability of the prototypes. Results were compared to terahertz wave detection by a commercial dipole photoconductive antenna.
