Lattice Boltzmann simulation of the advection of oil in water

Abstract

We show a simulation of the transport of oil on the surface of flowing water using a program implementation of the Shan-Chen lattice Boltzmann method. By varying the parameters in our implementation particularly the magnitude of the oil-water interaction and the flow inlet and outlet velocity, we show a simulation of an actual simple oil advection experiment performed on a tabletop setup, supporting the functionality of the implementation.
