Abstract

Cu-doped ZnO micro structures were prepared by aqueous chemical growth (ACG) method. X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) were used to investigate its structural and morphological properties, respectively. XRD measurements showed that ZnO microrods maintained the typical hexagonal wurtzite structure as shown by the presence of three prominent peaks (100), (002) and (101). Moderate Cu-doping enhanced (002) preferential growth orientation of ZnO. C-lattice parameter increased due to possible substitution of Cu to Zn ions. SEM images also showed the formation of hexagonal rod-like with some presence of pod-like structures. Raman spectroscopy was also used to determine the change in vibrational mode. Raman spectra showed the presence of two non-polar modes E2 (high) and E2 (low). These modes are distinct characteristics for ZnO hexagonal wurtzite structure. Frequency shift and broadening was also seen in the E2 (high) mode.
