Abstract

A method of determining the amount of red dye in deionized water using Porous silicon (PSi) as optical template was demonstrated. In this technique, absorbance and chromatic dispersion of red dye solution in PSi was obtained via reflectance spectroscopy. Test liquids used are different concentrations of red dye in DI ranging from 20%-100%. Calculations were made and dispersion of absorbance and effective refractive index were modeled using Extended Cauchy and Sellmeier’s empirical equation respectively. It was found that the sensitivity of detection is negative and largest at near IR ~0.4704 for ΔnPSi , while smallest at visible region for absorbance ~0.1712.
